Gömbkilátó

Balatonboglár

On the summit of Várdomb of volcanic origin, at an altitude of 165 meters, is perhaps the best-known symbol and attraction of the town of Balatonboglár, the Gömbkilátó. Originally, the domestic tourism pavilion, the "Hungarian Atomium", was presented at the Budapest International Fair as a symbol of the Hungarian aluminum industry, which was built based on the plans of engineer István Kádár, inspired by the famous symbol of the 1958 World Exhibition in Brussels. Its spherical structure with a diameter of 15 meters was made up of 240 (only two types) triangular plates. At the end of the 1970s, it was stripped of its cover and moved to Balatonboglár thanks to the council president Kálmán Szabó, and was named Xantus János Gömbkilátó.
